Ben is an accomplished actor, writer, and all around nice guy.
Though born in Memphis, Tennessee (December 11, 1962), he was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended Myers High School and then was accepted into Furman University in South Carolina, where he majored in psychology while also finding time to play on the football team and act in various productions.
After graduation, he went to England to study acting at London's Central School of Speech and Theatre. He returned to the U.S. in 1989 as part of the cast of Peter Hall's Broadway production of Merchant of Venice starring Dustin Hoffman.
He soon headed to Hollywood, where he was cast in a number of guest-starring roles, ranging from Murder She Wrote to CSI: Miami to the recurring character of Sam in Party of Five. In addition, he also appeared in several Movie of the Week productions including, "The Unauthorized Charlie's Angels Story, Danielle Steele's "Secrets", and "The Fire Above", to name a few; as well as the blockbuster movie "Memphis Belle."
Cast as the lost astronaut, John Crichton, in 1999, Farscape was his first lead role in a TV series. A critical and rating success, the series quickly became the signature show for the SciFi Channel and ran from 1999 to 2004. He went on to win two Saturn Awards for the series. Despite being cancelled abruptly in 2003, Farscape returned to the small screen in 2004 after a tremendous campaign by it's fans. Mr. Browder won a third Saturn Award for the mini-series, Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars.
Starting July 15, 2005, Ben was cast in the role of Col. Cameron Mitchell, the new leader of SG-1, replacing Richard Dean Anderson's Gen. Jack O'Neill.
